THE CLASICOS: CHIVAS VS. AMERICA EDITION

Tomorrow... well actually in a few hours, one of the greatest rivalries in soccer (futbol) will take place, of course I am talking about the Superclasico Chivas vs. America!!!

This should be a pretty interesting one, putting aside the rivalry factor there is a lot at stake. For instance, Chivas could potentially regain the Superliderato since both Santos de Laguna and Cruz Azul were defeated this jornada. The Superliderato is up for grabs! A victory for Guadalajara would mean the Superliderato and since regular season is a few games from being over, the Superliderato is of great worth (putting aside the whole curse of the Superliderato).

Las Aguilas on the other-hand are just playing for sheer pride since their nightmare season is almost over. America is currently in 16th place with 14 points. Apertura 2011 was definitely not their season! Although they are coming off a surprising 3-0 win over Monterrey.

I guess it's up in the air, since there are no safe bets in soccer but my chedda is still on Chivas!

Btw another clasico being battled today is Manchester United vs. Manchester City! The Manchester clasico is literally less then 5 hours away!

Soccer Sunday will be pretty epic, so tune in!!!

"Been gone for a minute know I'm back at the jump off"

So.... I took a bit of time off but now I'm back, and what a day to come back with so much international action! The UEFA national teams are battling it out for a spot in the EURO 2012 Championship. While the CONMEBOL teams are fighting for a spot in the World Cup. The smaller CONCACAF teams are also dueling it out for a spot in the World Cup. While the big 2 from CONCACAF (Mexico and U.S.) are both participating in some international friendlies. The most interesting game in my opinion will be Mexico vs. Brazil @ 6 PM PT.

Where Will Gio Play??????????

Giovani Dos Santos' future is up in the air. With the transfer window deadline being today, it seems like time has run out for the Mexican player. Both Sevilla and Udinese have expressed great interest in the player but nothing has materialized with either club team. It seems that neither team is willing to shell out the 9 million Euros asking price. The clock is rapidly ticking away, and with each passing second Gio is closer to being stuck at Tottenham for another 6 months. The Spurs are a great team but unfortunately for Gio he is on Harry Redknapp's shit list which translates into no playing time!

The U-20 World Cup Finalist are...

Portugal vs. Brazil
In 2 very dramatic semifinals Portugal and Brazil defeated their rivals by 2 goals. Portugal still hasn't had any goals scored against them in 6 games.

Mexico and Brazil looked pretty even throughout the game but in a span of 5 minutes Henrique scored 2 goals for Brazil. Mexico will play against France for third place.

The first U-20 World Cup finalist is...

Barcelona wins the Supercup!!!!

Barcelona have won their 10th Supercup! They defeated Real Madrid 3-2 at Camp Nou, with an aggregate score of 5-4. They tied on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu 2-2. Messi scored 3 goals, Villa scored 1, Iniesta scored 1 (for Barcelona) and Ozil scored 1, Xavi Alonso scored 1, Cristiano scored 1, Benzema scored 1 (for Real Madrid).

The hatred between the two teams was palpable, it all culminated into a massive fight in the 93rd minute. Marcelo received a red card for a hard tackle on Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas made his long awaited return to Barcelona towards the end of the game. The fight between the two teams ended with Ozil and Villa receiving red cards. Both players had been subbed out earlier and were on the bench. The 3 players that received red cards will miss the first game of the season, whenever La Liga begins. The Spanish players are currently on strike and will not play their scheduled games this weekend.

The 4 U-20 World Cup Semifinalists are...

Barcelona is Real Madrid's Kryptonite

Once again, Barcelona proved that they are Real Madrid's kryptonite. Real Madrid was the favorite to win the first leg of the Spanish Supercup. Not only did they have home field advantage (the game was at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid) but they were also much more prepared, having a very productive pre-season.Yet when push came to shove, and there were lots of pushes and shoves, Real Madrid could not pull off the win. The game ended in a draw (2-2) despite the fact that Real Madrid played a better game.

Real Madrid had possession of the ball for most of the game and created more goal scoring opportunities. They also played with their starting lineup while injuries prevented the Catalan team from doing so; both Pique and Xavi came in as subs in the second half.

The goal scorers were: Mezut Ozil 13', David Villa 36', Lionel Messi 45', and Xabi Alonso 54'.The best goal of the night was definitely David Villa's, it was similar to Gio Dos Santos' goal in the Gold Cup final. His shot curved beautifully into the corner of the net making it impossible for Iker Casillas to reach it. Although Messi made it onto the score sheet, he was practically invisible for most of the game. Cristiano Ronaldo made his presence noticeable but could not get the ball past Victor Valdes.

All and all it was a good game. Should Madrid have won? Yes without a doubt. Are they going to need a miracle to win at Camp Nou? Yes, without a doubt!

Memo Ochoa: Life in France

The Mexican goalkeeper is said to be adjusting to life in  France pretty well. He has even began to learn the language. He has not had a picture perfect debut with his new team, AC Ajaccio, but he is looking forward to improving and getting more comfortable with the European style of play. If last Wednesday's international game (Mexico vs. USA) was an indicator of what's to come from Memo then I foresee a lot of success for this curly haired gk.
